Inspired by a Book Mani - Jessica's Guide To Dating on the Dark Side

Confessions of a Sarcastic Mom's Inspired by a Book Manis

Every week I will bring you nail art! Thursdays used to be Fail Art Thursday, but hopefully I'll have less "fail" here! I'm going to do this series (for as long as I can), with nail art inspired by books! The covers of books specifically. I hope to be able to do this EVERY week - and I'm going to try my hardest to make this a weekly feature - there are SO many books I can utilize :)

Today's book is one of my favorites! Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey is a book I picked up at the library years ago to pass the time during the Twilight craze. I couldn't get into Twilight despite my love of vampires... but this book. Oh man, it was so much fun! I love it and its sequel :) However, my mani doesn't do it much justice hahah!

For this less than stellar mani, I used two polishes from Sally Hansen - Moto from the Patent Gloss line, a stunning red, and Night Fright, a black creme from the Insta Dri line. My idea should have been easy, but my execution was lacking so it didn't look like I imagined.

I started with Moto on 2 nails and Night Fright on the other 2. Then I sponged Fight Night over Moto to try and emulate Jessica's dress on the cover. It's not exact, but overall, the feel is there. Then I thought, 'Oh I know, let me try to do red dots for the lens flares on the right side of the cover!' And that's where I went wrong. My giant dots are awkward and clunky. They'd definitely be better if they weren't so thick.

So yeah, I'm good with 2 of the nails, but not the other 2 hahah!! Overall, it's not too bad if you don't stare at it too long, but If I had to do it over, I would've done the dots differently.

So what do you guys think? I am really looking forward to what I can accomplish by continuing this feature! Is there a book you'd like to see me attempt nail art inspired by? I'll gladly take suggestions! I can even get the book checked out from the library if need be ;)
