The one with Joey NY Specialty lipFIT - can it curb your appetite?

Okay, folks. I'm way out of my element today. This post has been a while in the making as I tested and retested this product. I'm talking about Joey New York lipFIT Lip Gloss. Can a lip gloss really curb your appetite? I got this tube from Apothica.com to try out, and tested it for several weeks, under several circumstances and stages of hunger.

At left is what the tube looks like. I'm thinking this came out a few years ago, possibly five or more. There are places that still sell this product, like Amazon.com, Dermstore.com, and BeautyEncounter.com, but it has been discontinued from Apothica.com. The flavor I got is called Sugarless. And that could not be a more apt name. This gloss is so thick and tastes like anything but sugar.

My first impression of it was disgusting. I slathered it on the first day, and it made my lips feel heavy. My first instinct was to lick my lips to alleviate the heaviness, right? Bad idea! This stuff tastes (and smells) like a mixture of pine needles and coconuts. That immediately put me in the mind of sunscreen. Imagine that on your lips. Is that enough to kill your appetite? I don't think it's supposed to taste or smell like that. But it's the smell and taste I got when using it.

So the first day I put this on, I had been up for about an hour and was definitely hungry. I slathered the stuff on, sort of gagged a little bit when I tried to lick my lips and went about my merry way. Without even noticing, an hour later, I realized my hunger was gone. I definitely wasn't hungry! Was it the placebo effect? I looked at the ingredients: Castor Oil, Soy Wax, Beeswax, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Aloe Oil w/Vitamin E, Lanolin, Natural Grapefruit Flavor, Natural Spearmint Flavor, Natural Peppermint Flavor. mm Spearmint? Grapefuit? Castor Oil? I'm thinking all these things on their own are weird enough, but put them together, and you get mass chaos on my lips!

...but it worked. It seriously did. Placebo effect or not, my appetite was curbed that first day. And the next day, and the next. And every day I've worn it thereafter. It has to be the way your brain reacts to the scent and taste. I'm sure that has a scientific name. All I know is that everytime I put the gloss on, my hunger goes away. I even experimented with putting other lip stuff on that's from the same type of tube. I have a few that are old school and taste like wax. When I wore the others, my appetite didn't get any better or worse.

Here's what the lip gloss looks like on. You can see how thick it looks. It has a slight brownish tint to it and adds the slightest bit of color.

So...my verdict? It works. There's no scientific data to back up my trials, and from what I can gather, none of the claims made by Joey NY Specialty as to this working have  been evaluated by the FDA. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the smell and taste of this lip gloss is so gross that it kills your appetite. hahaha! What do you think? Would you try it?
