Every week I will bring you nail art! Thursdays used to be Fail Art Thursday, but hopefully I'll have less "fail" here! I'm going to do this series (for as long as I can), with nail art inspired by books! The covers of books specifically. I hope to be able to do this EVERY week - and I'm going to try my hardest to make this a weekly feature - there are SO many books I can utilize :)
Today's post features a book that I read last year - Asylum by Madeleine Roux. I really enjoyed it! The cover art is creepy and ethereal... and, maybe a little smokey? hahah The book is spooky and fun, and I got Book 2 for my birthday! hahah So here it is!
Colors I used for this mani are China Glaze Pelican Grey (purchased by me) and Out Like A Light (press sample), Pure Ice Wild Thing, Wet n Wild Black Canvas and the Wet n Wild matte top coat (all purchased by me). I also used eye shadow applicators for this look.
I started with a base of Pelican Grey, then dabbed, with an eye shadow applicator, Out Like A Light over it in various spots (pictured below at left). Once that dried a bit, I dabbed Blank Canvas around, as well (pictured below left).
I decided, in relation to the cover art, it was most definitely a matte look. So I busted out the matte top coat. That really made it look just like the cover! haha I wasn't sure exactly how to incorporate the green text, so I ended up kind of tossing some lines and shapes at my cuticles. Not sure if I like that part or not.
I think the smokey cloudy look is cool! I really like this technique too. It's so easy! Just sweep some polish onto the applicator and dab around the nail. Any color combo, any pattern!
So what do you guys think? I am really looking forward to what I can accomplish by continuing this feature! Is there a book you'd like to see me attempt nail art inspired by? I'll gladly take suggestions! I can even get the book checked out from the library if need be ;)
